Nature is a cruel beast.

I’m a huge fan of nature shows like Planet Earth, Our Planet and more, but sometimes, the harsh reality of nature is a little too much to stomach.

A lot of people who don’t know any better thing hunting is a cruel endeavor, but the truth is, it’s far more brutal to let nature take its course.

If you’re not a fan, it’s time to look away…

Filmed in the Hayden Valley area of Yellowstone National Park, we get a front row seat to a grizzly bear chasing down a wounded bull elk into the Yellowstone River. At that point, it was time to rumble, and only the strong will survive.

According to the guy that captured the footage, the bull had a puncture wound from another elk, and perhaps a snapped tibia. Taking down a full grown bull elk would ordinarily be a tall order for a bear, but this grizz saw an opportunity, and took it.

“At first light this morning I pulled over noting a Bull Elk with a few cows in the upper right of the meadow depicted in the opening photograph.

I was startled moments later by a Bull Elk running into the Yellowstone River pursued by a large Grizzly Bear.

The Grizzly was successful in taking down the Bull Elk after only a few minutes, but it worked for around a half an hour to redirect it to the far side of the river and secure it on the east bank, about one- hundred yards downstream from the north end of Hayden Valley.”

WILD.

And after he drowns the big Bull Elk and drags him to shore, it’s lunchtime.

But after said grizz dragged his elk carcass back to shore, he had another job to do…. defend it.

A few days later, we now have this incredible footage, featuring two grizzlies going head to head over that very same elk carcass.

“Last weekend a large Grizzly took down a Bull Elk in Yellowstone River just South of Canyon Village and dragged it back to shore.

There is an amazing video on YouTube capturing this event. I was able to film 2 Grizzlies fighting over the carcass early this morning. National Geographic, eat your heart out.”

Nature man… I love it.
