The song, “I Found Someone”, was originally recorded by Laura Branigan in 1985

80’s power ballad “I Found Someone” was written by a then unknown singer by the name of Michael Bolton, later to achieve chart success on his own, and Mark Mangold and although Bolton wrote the song, he gave it to Laura Branigan, known for her covers of other artists earlier hits. It appeared on her fourth studio album, “Hold Me”, and was released as a single in February 1986, but only making No.90 on the US singles chart and doing nothing elsewhere.

Just twelve months later, Cher nabbed the song for her self-titled 1987 album and released it as the lead single in November that year. Her version was much more successful, reaching No.10 in the US and becoming a big hit internationally, particularly in the UK, where the song peaked at No.5 in February 1988.

But whose version is the best? LAURA’s original or CHER’s cover?
