KIRBY Releases New Song ‘Can We Be Friends?’
KIRBY has to have unlimited minutes. The rising singer is stuck in the house on her new song, dialing her ex and asking “Can We Be Friends?”
The song, which she co-wrote with Mike Irish, has a soulfulness to its production that feels nostalgic, returning to the classic R&B stylings of steady drums and the use of bass guitar. She sings about not wanting the breakup between her and her partner to make them bitter enemies.
“Baby, can we be friends? (Yeah, ooh) / We ain’t gotta be enemies / Even though we ended things / Can we be friends? (Yeah, ooh) / We ain’t gotta be enemies / Even though we ended things / Can we be,” sings KIRBY on the song’s chorus.
“Can We Be Friends?” comes just weeks after the release of “Coconut Oil.” She began her newest era in August with the arrival of “Break Her Heart for Me.” There’s no word if the previous songs “Superpower,” featuring D Smoke and the soulful “Boyz II Men” are attached to the future project.
Beginning October 2, KIRBY will be joining John Legend for select dates on his Bigger Love Tour. You can purchase tickets here.
