As much as I love it (although maybe not in keeping with it being New Music Friday again), I want to listen to something other than straight-up pop songs today. Perhaps, because the sudden cool nip in the air is reminding me, Autumn season has arrived. That made me want to seek out new music, less pop and more experimental. I was immediately enthused when I saw that the London-based, Irish born producer Sega Bodega had put a new track, “Angel On My Shoulder“, out. Because of knowing the music style he works in to be forward-thinking and original. Listening to an artist who delights in disconnecting from the mainstream really suited the mercurial kind of mood I am in today.

It is typical of him to keep pushing his sound in all directions, expanding, diversifying, innovating. You never quite know what you are going to get from him. That is the thrill! Let’s be clear, though, this is not the kind of music you can just pop on during the commute to and from work. When you have a quiet afternoon which we will likely have more of in the winter months ahead. A better option when becoming Sega Bodega savvy. There will be plenty of time in the coming months to get acquainted with the producer, singer-songwriter, given that he’s just announced the sophomore album “Romeo” is out on 12th November.

Similarly, the track “Angel On My Shoulder“, the use of bass elements, glitchy electronics and piano keys, exhibits an ethereal, haunting tone. I realise I haven’t listened to enough of this kind of electronica in a long time because of keeping myself uplifted with pop tracks during the trying times of the pandemic. When I heard this track for the first time, I knew at once, going forward, I need pick back up connecting with more innovative electronica. If anyone can, or anything can reignite that flame in me. I am hedging a bet now that the Sega Bodega sophomore album “Romeo” will have me gripped, soaking in infinite re-listens.
