Squirrel Stashes Thousands Of Walnuts Inside North Dakota Mans Truck
A Fargo, North Dakota man got quite the surprise when he recently popped open the hood of his pickup truck.
According to the Idaho Statesmen, a red squirrel apparently decided to stash a whole lot of nuts inside of the engine compartment. There was plenty of storage space and the squirrel was able to stuff away a whopping 26 pounds of walnuts for its winter cache.
The squirrel put a lot of hard work into storing enough nuts to get through the winter, but once his stash was found the owner, Bill Fischer, went to work removing walnuts and shared documentation of the situation on Facebook and shared his story with the Grand Forks Herald.
I had to pull the fenders off and clean out all the walnuts, and thought I had them all and took it down the road, turned the corner, and found one rolling down the windshield where the wipers go
“I had to pull the fenders off and clean out all of the walnuts, and thought I had them all and took it down the road, turned the corner and found rolling down the windshield where the wipers go.”
After 9-days of pulling nuts out of the truck, he wound up with 42 buckets full, although there are still a few of them stuck down in there that he was unable to fish out. He let people know that he had more walnuts than he knew what to do with up for grabs.
“Naturally grown and now industry 1st, all handpicked by a squirrel, Red Squirrel to be exact. Hurry as these may have limited availability as I hear the hard-working furry tree dweller might be retiring soon due to health reasons.”

He followed up the initial post with a video of his dog watching a red squirrel around a tree branch above the truck.
“The squirrel is dealing with a caustic work environment due to a relentless micromanaging supervisor of the canine type.”
